Some little Ostrich facts

This blog is a follow up for my video I did. The video will be posted to the website as well.

My family owned an Ostrich ranch for several years. People from all over traveled to see it. School buses brought kids from all around to have a field trip at our ranch. Besides Ostriches, we also had Emus and Reas. We had over 400 ostriches on our ranch.

•All three of these birds are ratites, meaning the are flightless birds.

•There are two species of ostrich, the common ostrich and the Somali ostrich.

•Ostriches have two toes and on these toes, they have large and dangerous claws. Not only do their feet contain these incredible weapons, but they can produce a kick strong enough to kill a lion.

•Like some of their smaller relatives, ostriches are omnivorous, meaning they each just about anything. They are known to eat plants, insects, snakes and even rodents at times. Though they do eat a variety of foods, plants so make up most of their diet. Because of this, they do not actually need to drink water, if they are eating enough vegetation, the plants provide them with all they need.

•Just like stated in No Ants Please,

ostriches swallow sand, pebbles and small rocks to help grind up and digest their food.

If you have any questions, let me know.

As always, thank you for reading and if you enjoyed this blog, please share.
